Polish-German workshop for teachers
On 24–27 July 2017 the State Museum at Majdanek together with The House of the Wannsee Conference organized a workshop for teachers from Polish and German schools. The teachers were presented with methods and forms of out-of-school education used at the State Museum at Majdanek that allowed them for better preparation of their students for visits at the post-camp memorial sites and development of their own methods of work during regular lessons.
The objective of the workshop also encompassed an exchange of teaching methods of Polish and German teachers as well as their own views on the vision of current history, its meaning and its teaching in Poland and Germany.
Within the scope of the workshop, on 24 July, during a walk around the city, the participants got to know the history of the occupation of Lublin (Jewish Lublin, NN Theatre, ghetto area, synagogue in the former Talmudic Chachmei Lublin Yeshiva Academy). On the second day, the participants visited the grounds of the former German Nazi concentration camp at Majdanek. Then they listened to the lecture by deputy director of the Museum, Wiesław Wysok, entitled Learning about history in authentic memorial sites. Pedagogy of remembrance as a teaching concept. After viewing the teaching materials, the participants worked in international groups on a project of classes for group of students from Poland and Germany.
An educational trip to the Museum – Memorial Site in Bełżec took place on the last day of the workshop. In the framework of the study trip, the participants not only visited the grounds of the former German death camp but also got to know the occupation history of Izbica and Zamość.
