The 75th anniversary of the pacification of Dziesiąta
On October 10, 1942 the German occupation authorities carried out a police action in the Dziesiąta district. As a result, many people were detained and about 150 were imprisoned behind the barbed wire of the concentration camp at Majdanek. On the 75th anniversary of those events, the State Museum at Majdanek organised an education project for the youth whose aim was to commemorate the victims of the pacification.
On October 10, 2017 at 9 a.m. Dr Krzysztof Tarkowski gave a lecture coupled with a presentation on the pacification of the Dziesiąta district. The background of the events, the course of the police action as well as the lots of people who went to KL Lublin in the course of German police activities were presented.
Following the presentation, the youth had the possibility to visit the actual places related to events from 75 years before. They went to prisoner field V with the remains of barracks no. 9 in which women arrested in Dziesiąta were imprisoned. Finally, the youth were presented with the original documentation concerning people imprisoned in the camp.
The project was realised together with the Szymon Konarski Primary School No. 1 in Lublin.
On October 10, 1942 the German occupation authorities collected all the adult population of the Dziesiąta district on a square between the school and the church, which was followed by the verification of their identity.
