The launch of the comic book “Chleb wolnościowy”
On the 11th of May there was an official premiere of the latest publication of the State Museum at Majdanek - the comic book based on the stories of the former German Nazi concentration camp inmates.
- “This is the first comic book in the 75 years history of the State Museum at Majdanek. It is an expression of our tribute to the inmates of KL Lublin”- pointed out Agnieszka Kowalczyk-Nowak from the State Museum at Majdanek, the host of the meeting. The comic book was drawn by the artist called Paweł Piechnik who gathered a collection of graphic stories based on memories of the former inmates of Majdanek. – “In the graphic part of the comic book there is no reference from me. All of the words that appear there, come from the stories of the former inmates, collected just after the war or a couple of years later. I had an opportunity to talk with two of those people”.
The premiere of the comic book was preceded (10th May) and closed (11th May) by the comic workshops. This comic book has great educational values. – “The comic book transfers in the accessible form the knowledge about Majdanek. We want to encourage our readers in that way to dig deeper in the history of the former camp and try to discover the fates of their own family” - said Izabela Tomasiewicz, the Head of the Exhibition Department of the State Museum at Majdanek, during the meeting.
The premiere took place in one of the branches of the Hieronim Łopaciński Municipal Public Library in Lublin, which was hosting comics fans from Lubelskie region. The next promotional meetings will be held during the biggest events devoted to comic books in Poland, among others: Komiksowa Warszawa (Warsaw of Comics), Festiwal Komiksu w Łodzi (The International Festival of Comics and Games in Łódź) and Falkon in Lublin.
