The promotion of the book “Ocaleni z zagłady” (Saved from the Holocaust)
On the 14th of May 2019 auditory room of the Visitor Service Centre hosted the launch of the book “Ocaleni z Zagłady” by the mitred prelate Grzegorz Pawłowski. The meeting was organized by the Gaudium publishing house in cooperation with the Museum at Majdanek.
The book is a collection of rhyming stories presenting Jewish figures who managed to escape death during World War II thanks to Poles. The publication presents clear evidence of the Jewish victims rescued by Poles, who risked their own lives. It contains archival photographs of survivors, their families and friends.
First, the director of Gaudium, Reverend Doctor Marek Szymański, welcomed all guests and thanked them for coming. Jakub Chmielewski, the historian from the Department of Research of the State Museum at Majdanek, took the floor and gave a lecture on the Jewish people in Izbica and their extermination during World War II. His speech was followed by a panel discussion concerning the book and education of the future generations about the Holocaust. The discussion conducted by the Reverend Rafał Pastwa was attended by Bishop Mieczysław Cisło, Marian Turski, Reverend Professor Mirosław Wróbel and Reverend Doctor Jacek Stefański.
The last one to take the floor was Mitred Prelate Grzegorz Pawłowski who shared a reflection about his own life.
The participants had the pleasure to hear the students’ performance of Karol Lipiński General Primary and Secondary Music School in Lublin.
