The Extermination of Jews in the German Operation Reinhardt
"The Extermination of Jews in the German Operation Reinhardt” thoroughly descirbes the genocide of Jews conducted in the General Government by the Third Reich within the years 1942-1943.
The German and Austrian Nazis murdered approx. 1,5 million Jewish victims - women, children, and men killed in the death camps of "Einsatz Reinhardt" established in Bełżec, Sobibór, Treblinka, and at Majdanek. The victims included primarily the Polish Jews, though they also included the citizens of Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia, the Netherlands, France, Greece and other European countires.
A set of 24 panels describes the origins and timeline of the genocidal programme, its perpetrators and mass murder sites. The historical content is enriched with a variety of photographs, documents, maps, and sketches. The exhibiton is not merely a source of information as it primarily comemmorates the victims killed in the name a racist ideology.
The exposition has been prepared by the State Museum at Majdanek as a part of a larger comemmorative project held in the 80th anniversary of "Einsatz Reinhardt" together with our partners - the Jewish Historical Institute and the Warsaw Ghetto Museum. The project has been granted the patronage of the President of the Republic of Poland Mr Andrzej Duda.
