EDUCATION IN THE STATE MUSEUM AT MAJDANEK IN 2024

In 2024, the employees of the Education Department of the State Museum at Majdanek organised and conducted over 120 diverse educational activities for Polish and foreign recipients. 4500 people took advantage of our educational offer by taking part in meetings aimed at promoting knowledge about the former concentration camp at Majdanek.

The activities included, among others, study visits, museum lessons, participatory workshops, themed tours, seminars, international exchanges, contests and training courses. These events enabled a wide audience – from youth and teachers to people at risk of exclusion – to explore the history of the Majdanek concentration camp. Visits to exhibitions and guided tours of the former camp, enriched by a variety of historical sources, fostered reflection and encouraged discussion.

As part of our long-standing cooperation with educationalists, we organised another edition of didactical and methodological training. During this year’s meeting, entitled “Distorting Reality. The Role of the Third Reich Propaganda”, we presented numerous examples of indoctrination used by the Nazis. We analysed and discussed the content of propaganda posters, books and newspapers published in the Third Reich with more than 60 teachers from all over Poland.

We also continued our series of seminars about the culprits and their motives. During 8 meetings with police officers, judge’s trainees and prosecutor’s trainees from Italy, Germany, Spain, Greece, Poland and Romania, we learned about the biographies of SS-men and female guards from Majdanek, enriching them with sociological and psychological concepts.

Socio-educational projects organised during the anniversary events attracted great interest. Together with representatives of Lublin institutions, students and residents of the city, we commemorated the tragic fate of the Jewish community during the second edition of the remembrance walk. In cooperation with the teaching staff and youth from the Jan Twardowski High School No. 30 in Lublin, we also launched a three-year project entitled “Bio(topo)graphies. Discovering the lost.”

We want to thank every person who takes part in our educational initiatives for the year 2024 and wish everyone a happy and peaceful Christmas and all the best in the new year.
