I survived… But I never found peace: Event on Zacheusz Pawlak’s book

On 12 June at 6 p.m. at the Museum of Radom History, Rynek 4/5 we are hosting a meeting with our historian and editor Marta Grudzińska. The event is dedicated to the memoir of Zacheusz Pawlak entitled “Przeżyłem” [“I survived”] that has been recently released by the State Museum at Majdanek in cooperation with the Prószyński publishing house. The meeting will also be attended by Wojciech Stan, photographer and dear friend of Zacheusz Pawlak.

The event is the first of the “Czwartek z Esterką” series held by the Jacek Malczewski Museum. The title refers to the historic name of the building that today houses the modern exhibition of the Radom History Museum.

“Przeżyłem” is the new edition of the near-legendary account by Zacheusz Pawlak – renowned Radom’s physician, former prisoner of the Majdanek concentration camp. It is enriched with previously unpublished contents – the author’s description of the Majdanek camp hospital, a report from the perpetrators’ trial in Düsseldorf, and Wojciech Stan’s photographs donated by the author’s family.

The event will be moderated my Marcin Kępa – writer, publicist, cultural activist. In the years 2010-2023 he worked with Gazeta Wyborcza newspaper. He created the Leszek Kołakowski “Okna” Philosophy Festival in Radom and the Good Film Club. Nowadays, he is the curator at the Education Department of the Jacek Malczewski Museum in Radom, the chief editor of the “Arte Fakty” journal, curator of the permanent exhibition at the Radom History Museum, co-editor of the “Miastotwórczość” journal.
