International youth exchange as part of the “Spaces of the Holocaust: Majdanek, Bełżec, Sobibór” project
On 23-28 March 2025 the State Museum at Majdanek with its branches in Bełżec and Sobibór hosted an international exchange for the youth from Poland, Germany, and the Netherlands.
Students and teachers actively discovered the history of the German death camps; experienced and interpreted the museum spaces, collections, and testimonies of the Holocaust witnesses. Visiting the former camp grounds and participation in workshops allowed them to obtain knowledge while retaining a critical approach. Activities based on first hand accounts, artefacts, personal stories and historical photographs were enriched with discussions that inspired cross-cultural dialogue and created an opportunity to discover various ways of remembering.
The international youth exchange was held thanks to the funding of the EVZ Foundation and the German Federal Foreign Office as part of the YOUNG PEOPLE remember international programme and the “Spaces of the Holocaust: Majdanek, Bełżec, Sobibór” project.
