A doll dressed in a denim clothing with gray and blue stripes

A doll, dressed in a denim clothing with gray and blue stripes, typical for the female prisoners of the concentration camp, made at the tailor's Schneiderei in the Majdanek camp. The doll's trunk is made of white linen, stuffed with little pieces of various fabrics. Eyes, nose and mouth are embroidered. Hair is made of brown embroidery floss. The clothing consists of a long-sleeved dress with a collar, a slip made of silk handkerchief with a delicate hemstitch, one-button jacket, babushka and long, red, felt boots. Rectangular, white piece of linen with embroidered prisoner number 1108 was sewn onto the jacket.

The doll was given in exchange for food to Józef Giebułtowicz – the prisoner of KL Lublin [Concentration Camp Lublin] arrested in Lviv and transported to Majdanek at the end of August and the beginning of September 1943. With the help of prisoners from commandos working outside the camp, Giebułtowicz forwarded the doll to his two-year-old daughter. On July 23, 1944, Giebułtowicz escaped from the last evacuation transport from KL Lublin to KL Auschwitz.

The doll was donated to the Museum's collections by Jadwiga Giebułtowicz in 1973.
