On January 18, 1943, a transport of prisoners from Pawiak, consisting of 1005 men and 331 women, reached Lublin. Among the men there were brothers Mieczysław and Kazimierz Rurka, who lived in the Żoliborz district in Warsaw, in Krasińskiego Street. They were arrested on November 9, 1942, and incarcerated in barracks no. 10 at field III. Mieczysław Rurka was given number 1299, and Kazimierz 1223. In March 1943, after exhausting work in commando Baukommando, both reported to the camp hospital with high temperature. The cause of it was typhus. On March 19, 1943, Kazimierz Rurka died in the gas chamber. His brother avoided death by leaving the camp hospital thanks to the help of doctor Romuald Sztaba. On July 5, 1943, he was deported to KL Dachau. He returned to Warsaw after the war.
