Groups at risk of exclusion

We prepare classes and various educational activities for inmates in prisons and detention centres. As part of our cooperation with the Regional Inspectorate of Prison Service in Lublin, we have repeatedly hosted such groups at our headquarters and visited inmates in their facilities.

We offer workshops both in prisons and detention centres, as well as at the Museum. In the case of visits to memorial sites, educational activities are combined with a tour of the former concentration camp at Majdanek. The topics covered include basic historical information about KL Lublin, which is presented through the individual stories of victims and related objects.

Topic 1: The world behind barbed wires – attitudes and experiences of Majdanek prisoners in video accounts

Friendship, courage, violence, and the mistreatment of other social groups are universal themes present both in the past and today. These topics will be discussed by witnesses to history – former Majdanek prisoners who recall their imprisonment in the camp. These accounts, recorded on video, will give viewers an insight into the personal experiences and emotions of former prisoners and enable them to learn more about the history of KL Lublin. The classes also provide an opportunity to discuss timeless values and to reflect on our own attitudes and values that guide us on a daily basis.

Duration: approx. 4 hours (tour of the former camp and workshops)

Number of participants: up to 30

Topic 2: Different fates – similar dreams. Prisoners and the Majdanek camp in video accounts by witnesses to history

During the class, participants watch a video recording containing accounts of former prisoners of the Majdanek camp, focusing on the hopes, desires, and dreams that accompanied them during World War II. The audience has the opportunity to listen to the stories of people who experienced life in the ghetto and behind the barbed wire of the concentration camp. The experiences of the witnesses are a starting point for discussion, exchange of thoughts, and reflection on the expectations and dreams of contemporary people.

Number of participants: up to 30

Duration: approx. 4 hours (tour of the former camp and workshops)

Topic 3: The art of storytelling, or stories hidden in museum exhibits

Among the exhibits presented at the museum's historical exhibition, we find personal items belonging to former prisoners, objects made by them, and items directly related to the terror of the camp. Each of them hides a different fragment of the past, telling the stories of their owners and creators, and showing the realities of World War II. They are often the only source of information about the nameless victims of KL Lublin. During the workshops, we will look at selected museum artifacts, try to discover their diverse histories, and talk about the role of objects in human life.

Number of participants: up to 30

Duration: approx. 4 hours (tour of the former camp grounds and workshops)
