Polish Martyrdom Museums Seminar

On 8–9 September, at the Museum and Memorial in Sobibór we welcomed the representatives of numerous institutions that deal with the commemoration of World War II.

The event, hosted by the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, offered an opportunity to exchange ideas and share experiences in the fields of museum education, preservation, digitalisation, and new technologies. The Forum included around 30 papers, including those given by the representatives of the Majdanek Museum. Agnieszka Kowalczyk-Nowak and Łukasz Mrozik presented our new website and the visiting app that we recently launched. Dorota Niedziałkowska described the process of re-releasing the survivors’ memoirs in the form of new book projects, while Aleksandra Szymula summarised the entire collection of the artefacts related to Sobibór that are preserved at the memorial.

The Forum was attended by: The Katyń Museum in Warsaw, Gross-Rosen Museum, Warsaw Ghetto Museum, KL Plaszow Memorial Museum, Museum of Polish children, victims of totalitarianism, German Nazi concentration camp, for Polish children in Łódź (1942-1945), Mausoleum of Struggle and Martyrdom – branch of the Pawiak Prison Museum, Museum of Independence Traditions in Łódź – Radegast Station Branch, Dulag 121 Museum, The National Maritime Museum in Gdańsk, Pawiak Prison Museum, Palmiry Museum and Memorial.
