An open meeting as part of the social and educational project entitled ‘Jadwiga Ankiewicz: A Year of Remembrance’, organised in collaboration with the Jan III Sobieski No. LXXV General Secondary School in Warsaw, under the honorary patronage of the Mayor of the Śródmieście District.

The participants will talk about what information regarding Jadwiga and her loved ones had been passed down through the family for years, and which aspects of their history were only discovered later on.

The discussion will take as its starting point both preserved memories and family heirlooms, as well as individual ways of exploring the past. The aim of the event is to encourage reflection on how a multi-dimensional history can emerge from individual memories, family stories – including those that are incomplete – and material traces of the past.

September 2026 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Jadwiga Ankiewicz, a native of Warsaw, a former prisoner of the German concentration camp at Majdanek, and the author of an extraordinary diary kept in secret whilst she was imprisoned. To mark this occasion, the State Museum at Majdanek is running a social and educational project entitled ‘Jadwiga Ankiewicz: A Year of Remembrance’.
