Photographers

The authors of most of the photographs on display could not be identified. However, the exhibition includes photographs taken by three Soviet photographers: Mikhail Trachman, Kuznetsov and Demin. In the case of the latter two, only their surnames are known, along with the fact that they served in units of the 1st Belorussian Front. Mikhail Trachman, on the other hand, was a Red Army photographer who took part in documenting the most significant events of the Soviet offensive towards the west.

The exhibition also includes works by Stanisław Magierski — a well-known photographer and documentary filmmaker from pre-war Lublin.

Archival Sources

The photographs on display come mainly from the Museum’s archives. A significant proportion of the material was acquired in the 1990s during research conducted in Russia.

Stanisław Magierski’s photographs were added to the Museum’s collection as early as the 1940s, donated by the author himself. Most of his collection was subsequently donated to the Museum by Danuta Magierska in the 1960s.
