KL Lublin Liquidated 82 Years Ago

Together with survivors, residents of Lublin, and the representatives of local authorities and institutions we paid homage to the victims of the Majdanek German Nazi concentration camp. KL Lublin was liquidated exactly 82 years ago. Over 130,000 people deported from all over German-occupied Europe were imprisoned there.

On 22 July 1944, the final evacuation transport left Majdanek. Fierce combat between the German and Soviet forces were still ongoing around Lublin at that time. That topic was at the heart of the lecture given by Krzysztof Tarkowski from the Archives of the State Museum at Majdanek. He performed a detailed analysis aimed at reconstructing the military activities that continued around the city until 25 July 1944.

Then, the event’s participants went on special guided tours based on the testimonies of two important survivors of Majdanek – Jan Michalak and Andrzej Stanisławski. They could also hear their genuine voices thanks to testimony fragments aired in the final part of the programme. The ceremony with flowers laid in the memory of the victims was held at the Mausoleum.
