On 20 January we held another event devoted to one of the prisoners of Majdanek. This time it was Jan Michalak that was in the centre of attention. His wartime memoir entitled “Number 3273 was 16 Years Old” is the latest book released by the Museum in cooperation with the Prószyński i S-ka publishing house.

The event was held in the Między Słowami bookstore-café with the participation of the book editors – Marta Grudzińska and Magdalena Petruk. They described the biography of Jan Michalak and their work towards preparing the third edition of his memoir. A lot of attention was paid to the family aspect of Jan’s story – his camp experience combined with the constant worry about his parents and grandmother, whom the Germans also imprisoned at Majdanek. Those also tackled the present day, since the speakers also emphasized the role of Jan’s descendants in preparing the new edition of the book.
